Omaha Poker Is a New Variant of Poker That Offers Rake Races and Deposit Freerolls Like Hold’Em

Some people think all there is to poker is playing the cards, betting when your opponent checks and making bluffs at the pot whenever they feel it’s “right” to do so.

More recently though, some people have started learning more and it appears there’s a whole new game of poker that many people knew nothing (or very little) about.

When many first start playing poker (if you’re gen-x at least), there was really only five-card draw and seven card stud but as the years progressed a new game was born. When people first learned about Texas Hold’em it was like meeting someone who knew you’d be best friends with for a very long time. After playing this for long enough though, the magic starts to fade unless you’re poker-mad 24/7. Some people are starting to shy away from the two hole card situation.

This new game is called Omaha – Whenever people think they’ve started to get a handle on how their opponents play, someone always seems to come right out of nowhere and surprise them with a checking-raise, or bluffing in spots where people would never pick it in this game.

It might be that because Omaha deals each person four cards, it’s much more appealing. It could also be that because people can win more, their inner gambler spurs them on to learn it. The downside to this marvelous game however is that people are flipping a coin more often than they might realise (So as long as you’re not one of those, keep playing).

Regardless of the game, poker can be your best friend or your worst enemy – It all depends on who’s sitting at the table. It’s not the people who you’ve got to be worried about unless they’re something special – If you’re better than them you’re still not guaranteed a victory until that river card comes down a blank to your already-made hand, or else it puts you so far in front your only decision is how much to bet or re-raise.

Many people love poker, but some hate it. There’s no other game quite like it; One that can allow you to have so much skill and such a big edge over your opponent, yet still leave you walking home with nothing if they luck out with one of their four outs.

Do Not Compromise On Art Materials

Whether you are a famous painter or an aspiring artist, you must never compromise on the quality of the art materials you use.

Quality materials are essential regardless of your artistic ability as it does not matter if you create paintings for a living or you are just a hobbyist because how good your supplies are will directly impact on the art you make.

Shopping for art materials on the internet can be confusing as it is often difficult to ascertain how good the supplies actually are because there is sometimes a big difference in price between similar products.

It can be common to discover one tube of paint that costs five pounds while the same amount of a competing brand may be priced at double that, so what is it that makes it cost so much more and how will this affect your art?

One example why a paint product may be more expensive than a rival brand is that it might contain high quality ingredients that will result in the artist producing a better standard of painting.

Oil paint that contains just poor quality oil will be much cheaper compared to a product which has superior oil, more pigment and better preservers as the expensive paint will produce a more aesthetically pleasing finish.

Acrylic and pastel paints follow the same rule of thumb as oil paints so, as with most things in life, the more you can afford to spend then the better the art you will be able to create.

In terms of paint brushes, you will find that synthetic brushes are nearly always cheaper than brushes made from real animal hair although you may prefer to use the former if you object to operating with animal art materials.

Cheap art materials can be hard to find and if you do discover a discount, you must be wary as there are some products you should never buy such as plastic brushes which can seriously hinder how you paint.

The Significance of Yin and Yang (Part One)

Complementary Opposites

If you study any aspect of oriental philosophy or culture you soon come across the terms ‘yin’ and ‘yang’. These terms are used to describe the opposite yet complementary nature of iChi energy which ancient people understood to be present behind the manifestation of anything in nature – the creation of structures, actions, seasons, emotions and movement.

In I Ching Astrology the qualities of yin and yang lie behind the understanding of the cycles of change that we go through. These nine-year cycles are moving from yin to yang; this means from dormancy in winter (yin) through the active rising stage of spring to the consolidation stages of yang. Similarly, the principal numbers also contain yin/yang attributes.

Yang’s nature is seen to emanate from the heavens and descend towards the earth. Conversely, yin’s natural tendency is to rise and return towards the heavens. As yin’s energy rises it becomes more diffused, and therefore slower and cooler, whereas yang’s descending energy becomes more concentrated, harder, hotter and faster. The outcome of this process is that structures that are bigger are seen as more yin, while those that are smaller and more compact are seen as more yang.

Here is a list of some typical opposites associated with yin and yang.

Yin: passivity; coolness; stillness; potential energy (power); cool; introvert; diligent; cautious; maternal; insecure; dependent

Yang: activity heat; movement; power (obvious); self-conscious; passionate; extrovert; impulsive; stubborn; bold; paternal; adventurous; independent

Intermingled Concepts

An important principle to bear in mind is that nothing is totally yin and nothing is totally yang. The centuries-old yin/yang symbol, which everyone these days is familiar with, expresses this concept perfectly. The dark section of the yin/yang symbol is representative of yin, but within it is a small circle of the opposite (yang) from the left-hand side. If we were to look at a tree we could say that its leaves, branches and trunk represent the yin element in its structure and that the yang expression is within its downward-growing roots.

A spring onion has far more upward nature (yin) within its structure and far less root (yang); compares this with a carrot, which has a greater concentration of energy and structure within its root (yang) and less emphasis on the leaf structure (yin). Similarly, if our nature is predominantly spiritual or intellectual we are more yin than an individual who is practical and grounded, who would be seen as more yang.

People who are physically and emotionally flexible would be relatively more yin than people who are more rigid and inflexible. Nighttime, when we rest and are more passive, is traditionally understood as a more yin time, whereas the daylight hours when we are active and busy are seen as more yang. Winter, when it is colder and we are less active, is more yin than the summertime, when it is hotter and we are more outdoor and active.

Top 6 Tips on How to Doodle for the Most Fun

I am a doodler! I always have been and probably always will be. In my doodling career I have learned some useful tips. I thought perhaps it may be helpful to pin them down here. They certainly helped me.

Doodle Tip 1:

Have fun! This is not a serious thing and no-one will be harmed if you are not perfect. Just let yourself go and be delighted by what your hand produces!

Doodle Tip 2:

Aim to add an idea to your doodle with the patterns you choose. For instance I once drew a skull (very scary) but filled it with little hearts and flower patterns (very twee). The juxtaposition entertained me. I went looking for it and found it. So here it is:

Doodle Tip 3:

Doodle on good paper. Every now and then, you will create a masterpiece. It will be a real pity if it is in the margin of the telephone book!

“But I doodle when I am on the phone,” you say. So keep a clean pad of good paper near you always!

I mean always! I have several: on my desk, in my purse, by my bed and in the car!

Doodle Tip 4:

If a pristine white page is sitting there terrifying you, just close your eyes and draw a squiggle on it. Now it is “ruined”. It can only get better from here on in. This is a great way to fake out your own mind. It is only the chatter inside your head that says the page has to turn out to be a masterpiece – ignore your mind and enjoy the process!

Doodle Tip 5:

Try doodling with really skinny markers. Try some that are 1.0, 0.5, 0.3 and even 0.1 It is very interesting how the different thicknesses produce very different feelings when you draw. You get to play and figure out which one suits you best today.

Doodle Tip 6:

Play the scribble game. Get someone to just do a simple scribble on a piece of paper for you. Then you take it back and turn it about until the image appears to you. You can add a level of fun, by getting them to name a creature, say a dog or elephant or fish, and then you have to find a way to turn the scribble into that!
Have heaps of fun doodling today!
